How to Choose The Right Powder for Dark-Brown Skin..!
Powder is sheer,
so you'd think you could slap any old shade on your face and it would look
great -- wrong! Even though you only dust a small amount of powder on your
skin, it's still important to pick a shade that matches your dark-brown skin
tone. Walking into a store full of different brands and shades of powder is
scary, but once you find the right one for you, shopping for makeup might just
become your favorite activity.
1. Hold an orange piece of paper next to your face and look in the
mirror to determine your skin tone. If it makes your skin glow, your skin has
warm undertones. Hold a pink piece of paper next to your face next -- if your
complexion brightens up, you have cool undertones. Bring this knowledge to the
cosmetics counter and try powders with the same undertones your skin has for
the best match.
2. Apply foundation and concealer as you normally would to get the
right base for your powder, and then start experimenting. Brush half of your
face with one dark-brown shade, and the other half of your face with another to
determine which powder works best with your skin tone.
3. Examine your face outside in the sunlight to see if the makeup
is blending. When the powder is too light for your face, it looks ashy. When
the powder is too dark, it looks muddy, says New York-based makeup artist Nicky
Posley.
4. Opt for a makeup line that develops shades specifically for
women of color if you can't find a powder in your correct shade. New York-based
makeup artist Dina Gardner recommends powder shades by Iman Cosmetics.
5. Leave the powder on for a few hours before buying it. Some
powders might cake and look uneven on your skin as they settle. If the powder
still looks and feels smooth after a day of wear, run back to the store and put
down that credit card!
